Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was a painter and print-maker.

Life:

His etchings were occasionally compared to those of Whistler; his portraiture may also have influenced Whistler, who would have known of it through exhibitions in London and Manchester. Mother of Pearl and Silver: The Andalusian y378, for instance, shows characteristics of Goya's approach to technique and portraiture.
