Provenance

• 1872/1878: acquired by the sitter, Isabel Bateman (1854-1934);
• 1934: bequeathed to her sister Ellen Grepo (1844-1937), New Jersey and Santa Monica;
• Before 1937: given to private collectors, who owned it until at least 1995.
• 2008: bought by Paula Crane Lunder (b. 1935) and Peter H. Lunder (b. 1933);
• 2013: given by Peter and Paula Lunder to the Colby College Museum of Art.
