Provenance

  • 1903: in Whistler's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
  • 1935: given by Miss Birnie Philip to the University of Glasgow.

Exhibitions

  • 1874: possibly Mr Whistler's Exhibition, Flemish Gallery, 48 Pall Mall, London, 1874 (cat. no. 3) as' Design for a Child's Costume.'

Due to the conditions of Miss Birnie Philip's gift to the University of Glasgow, the drawing can not be exhibited elsewhere.
