• 1880/1891: owned by Thomas Way (1837-1915) or his son Thomas Robert Way (1861-1913), London;
• 1891: sold to Edward Guthrie Kennedy (1849-1932), New York dealer;
• By 1912: owned by his brother, David A. Kennedy (fl. 1895-1915).
• Before 1935: owned by Henry Harper Benedict (1844-1935);
• 1935: bequeathed to his widow, Katherine Geddes Benedict (1879-1961), and daughter, Mrs James Douglass Sharpe;
• 1962: sold at auction, Sotheby's, London, 21 November 1962 (lot 9) and bought by Julius H. Weitzner (1896-1986) for Agnew's, London art dealers;
• 1965: sold to a private collector.
• 1980: sold at auction, Christie's, London, 17 October 1980 (lot 3, repr.) and bought by Dr John Larkin (n/a) and Mrs Larkin.
