Composition

It was probably drawn for Whistler 1899 (F)[more]. It is a little like the one used for the Résumé, Butterfly [M.1574], but was not published.

Technique

It is similar to r.: Butterfly; v.: Butterflies [M.1552] with the tail corrected. The verso image has been crossed out.

Conservation History

The card has pinholes at the bottom corners (two at bottom left). It is on similar card to Two butterflies on tricolour flags among the clouds [M.1558].
