• 1903: In the artist's studio at his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law and executrix, Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
• 1955: sold by Miss Birnie Philip to P. & D. Colnaghi & Co., Ltd, London, 25 June 1955;
• 1955: bought by Denys Sutton (1917-1991), London;
• 1991: passed by family descent to a private collector;
• 2013: sold at auction, Sotheby's, New York, 3 October 2013 (lot 92, repr.).
