Sketch of 'The Whitesmiths, Impasse des Carmélites' was drawn in a letter from Whistler, in Paris, to Joseph William Gleeson White (1851-1898), in London, on 22 July 1894; in it Whistler suggested publishing The Whitesmiths, Impasse des Carmélites c092 in The Studio - a suggestion that was not taken up. 1
