The face at the top, emerging from deep shadow, is similar to that of Dorothy Seton (fl. 1885-1900) as she appears in Whistler's lithograph Portrait of a Young Woman [Miss Seton] c171 and may be related to it. The lithograph has been dated 1897 but may date from earlier.
