A copy from the print by John Sartain (1808-1897) after a painting by Paul Delaroche (1797-1856) that was shown at the Salon in 1831, a replica of which is in the Kunsthalle, Hamburg.

History

Provenance

The family relationships are complex and it is not absolutely certain what happened to the picture between 1890 and 1908. See further details in MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 174); this record has been revised.
