The paper was cut unevenly on three sides (not at the right), and was laid down on a board from 'The Permanent Postage Stamp Album of H. Stafford Smith (New ed.)'.

- By 1898: owned by Goupil's, London art dealers;
- 1899: sold to Charles Lang Freer (1856-1919), Detroit;
- 1919: bequeathed to the Freer Gallery of Art.
