Whistler sat in a gondola looking east under a bridge, the Ponte de l'Anzolo, to sketch the Palazzo Soranzo in the sestiere of San Marco/Castello, in Venice, Italy. A detail of the same building is seen in Venetian Palace m0730. ¹

Provenance

• 1910: possibly with Kennedy, New York dealers.
• 1912: said to have been owned by William Bradhurst Osgood Field (1870-1947).
