The sheet of paper originally enclosed the copper-plate of The Rialto [199], which shows the view of the bridge from the other side of the Grand Canal.

1903: in Whistler's studio at the time of his death and bequeathed to his sister-in-law and executric Rosalind Birnie Philip (1873-1958);
