Bravura in Brown was exhibited in 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1884 (cat. no. 66) as 'Bravura in Brown'.
This work is catalogued in MacDonald 1995 (cat. rais.) [more] (cat. no. 929).
Bravura in Brown, Whereabouts unknown
According to Edith Emma Marzetti (1865-1924), this was a portrait of Matthew White Ridley (1837-1888), and it was signed with a butterfly for her. However, this may be incorrect.
Unknown.
Not known.
The Morning Post on 24 May 1884 called the exhibited work 'a subtle arrangement of colours in warm brown and grey.'
It is possible that it was Bravura in brown m0928, but if so it was not, as was suggested, a portrait of M. W. Ridley.
