
A house with a porch, and a lady in a long dress was drawn on the verso of a card inviting Whistler to the private view of the Society of Portrait Painters on 12 May 1893, which was forwarded to Ethel Whibley (1861-1920) (then Ethel Birnie Philip). 1 The card is unrelated to the sketches.
