Statue in Luxembourg Gardens probably dates from 1894. It has been dated by comparaison with two lithographs of a similar subject, Confidences in the Garden c100 and La Belle Jardinière c101, both of which show Whistler's wife in the garden at 110 rue du Bac. 1

The drawing is on the gummed side of papier végétal paper obtained from the Paris printer Lemercier & Cie, but for some reason it was not transferred to a lithographic stone for printing. 2
This is a sheet of papier végétal paper, prepared for transferring a drawing to a lithographic stone. The paper has a very fine vertical grain, with small bits of stalk in it, and it has pinholes at the corner and on the right. 3
It was not, as far as is known, exhibited in Whistler's lifetime.
