- 1903: bought from Whistler on 8 May by Richard Albert Canfield (1855-1914);
- 1914: bought on 12 March by Knoedler's, New York dealers, and sold in April to William Welles Bosworth (1869-1966), New York;
- 1924: bought back in August 1924;
- 1927: sold by Knoedler's to a private collector;
- 1939: bought back in May 1939;
- 1948: sold to the Meredith Galleries, New York.
- Date unknown: acquired for the E. R. and J. Pennell Collection, Library of Congress.
