Description
On 10 April 1876 the New York Herald described it as 'the full sized portrait of a charming young girl, with hat resting coquettishly on one side of her head.'
Sitter
This could conceivably have been a portrait of Maud Franklin (1857-1939), possibly either Harmony in Black and Red y236 or Portrait of Maud Franklin y353, in which the model wears a hat. However, she was not really a 'young girl', being 19 years old.
