Description

It appears to have been a landscape. A critic described it as 'A few touches of grey and blue and a rapid touch of broken green, fine in tone it is true and with a certain suggestion of form, and the picture is finished.' ⁴

A critic described it as 'fine in tone ... and with a certain suggestion of form.' ⁵

It was probably the Australian-born artist Mortimer Luddington Menpes (1860-1938) who persuaded Whistler to exhibit with the Anglo-Australian Society of Artists.
