It was first exhibited in 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1884 (cat. no. 44).

Three panels very close in size, Blue and Grey: Unloading [YMSM 296], Black and Emerald: Coal Mine [YMSM 302] and Harmony in Brown and Gold: Old Chelsea Church [YMSM 305], probably date from shortly before they were exhibited in Dowdeswell's.
